🌲Outdoors & Trails

Far North Bicentennial Park

2 min walk

Right across the street. 100+ miles of multi-use trails through boreal forest. Best in summer for hiking and biking, world-class in winter for nordic skiing and fat biking. Trailhead is a 2-minute walk from the cabin.

Chugach State Park

20 min

Alaska's most visited state park wraps around the east side of Anchorage. Flattop Mountain is the most accessible summit — 3.5 miles roundtrip with panoramic views of the city and Cook Inlet. Glen Alps trailhead is 20 min from the cabin.

Tony Knowles Coastal Trail

15 min

11-mile paved trail along the Cook Inlet waterfront. Stretches from downtown to Kincaid Park. Great for cycling, running, and wildlife spotting — moose are common. Access it from downtown or Westchester Lagoon.

🦅Wildlife & Nature

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

45 min south

Drive-through sanctuary with bison, bears, wolves, moose, and more in natural habitats. Essential if you have kids or first-time Alaska visitors.

Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary

20 min south

Boardwalk over a wetland refuge. Peak birding in late spring/early fall. Free, easy, stunning.

Kincaid Park

20 min

Wooded park at the west end of Anchorage. Great trails, frequent moose sightings, occasional views of Denali on clear days.

🗺️Day Trips

Seward & Kenai Fjords National Park

2.5 hrs south

One of the most spectacular places on earth. Take a glacier cruise into the fjords — Exit Glacier is free to walk. Book tours in advance in summer.

Hatcher Pass

1.5 hrs north

Alpine tundra, abandoned gold mine ruins, incredible hiking above treeline. Independence Mine State Historical Park is the anchor. Beautiful in summer, exceptional in fall when the tundra turns red and gold.

Talkeetna

2 hrs north

Small frontier town with a big personality. Best views of Denali in the state (weather permitting). Great for flightseeing, rafting, and the famous Fairview Inn.
